It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Yesterday I did some Christmas baking and made some of my favorite cookies. We call them walnut crescents. They are little crescent shaped dough balls with walnuts mixed in that we cook and then roll in powdered sugar... delicious!

Aren't these little measuring cups darling? Each has its own little face!

(Most of) the ingredients!

Merry Christmas!

"Fashion is fleeting, style is eternal"

Welcome to another great interest of mine: Fashion.
"A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous." ~Coco Chanel

Just a little sketch...

Some inspiration...
(Left: my mini binder of sketches, notes, little stories, etc.
Middle: my absolute favorite magazine... People Style Watch
Right: a new book I recently began... it tells about designers, garment construction, ways to get into the fashion world, and little tips and notes on fabric, color coordination and so on.)

Sketching.. Drawing.. Thinking..

These were the product of a fun little game. Here's how it goes:
  • write all sorts of words on a slip of paper
  • put them in the bag
  • pull one out randomly and begin drawing based off of the word
  • let your drawing and imagination take you anywhere.. even if it doesn't line up with the word.
My first sketch began with the word "intricate" and the second with the word "tree."
Intricate: This is a sketch of the process of making a gown, specifically it is Chanel's little black dress and handbag.
Tree: Starbucks tree! The trunk is a Starbucks cup and straw with little branches and coffee cups coming off all over. In the top left corner is a cup of coffee raining down to help the Starbucks tree grow!

Happy Sweet 16 to Me!

Last Wednesday (October 26) was my 16th birthday! I spent the day going out to lunch, SHOPPING, dinner with a friend, and going to youth group! Friday I celebrated with some friends. We all dressed up in cute dresses and skirts and had a sort of a tea party.. here's a picture of the table decorations...

Let the streets resound with singing
Songs that bring your hope
Songs that bring your joy
Dancers who dance upon injustice"

Beads, Beads, and More Beads!

Last week I went to see my family in Virginia and my cousin, grandmother, and I had a lovely time beading together! Michaels had all the "Bead Gallery" beads half price, so we stocked up, then spent hours creating!

The finished product was four bracelets and a necklace! What a wonderful week!

Fall is on Its Way...

Fall is my favorite time of year.
I love to watch the leaves change colors...
          Pumpkin Spice Lattes are fabulous...
My birthday is in the fall...
The weather is so cool and crisp...
Autumn is just such a delight.
Being in the autumn mindset and all, I recently started a mixed media piece that just makes me think of this time of year:
And for a closer look...

Basically, what I did was use modge podge to cover an 8 x 10 canvas with fabric, and then I used a glue gun to attach buttons. It's clearly not finished yet, but it will be soon!

Psalm 63:4

I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.

And the Journey Begins!

I was challenged by an artist that I've been spending time with to begin my own art blog. Starting today I'll be taking this task on and posting my art, inspiration, and things I've created.
My art is generally colored pencils or acrylic, but I love to use mixed media (stay tuned... I'll have something up with fabric and buttons on canvas sometime soon!)
My inspiration can be art, a quote, and is very often a Bible verse or song lyrics. (You'll find I will post lyrics a lot, not necessarily because they have anything to do with the artwork posted, but because that's a song I've felt inspired by or just simply enjoyed recently.)
I love to create... the possibilities are endless!

"I have found a peace that ploughs on through the storm.
I have found a joy that jumps over sadness.
I have found a love that lights up every room.
I have found, I've found You!"
